Run the World

Run the World is a daily calendar and running log for adventurous runners. Each month features a different race in a different country, beginning with a 5k in January and steadily increasing to a 55K in December. The start of a new month is marked by a photograph of the country where the race takes place, a world map showing the race location, race information, and basic cultural location information.

Containing over 1,000 pages, this calendar promotes growth. The user grows physically and mentally stronger each month as the race distances increase, while also being exposed to a wide variety of cultures with every new running race. By the end of the year, the user will have raced a total of 217.6856709 miles (only races, not including training) on landscapes around the world. I perfect bound two copies of this calendar by hand.

The user can log their run, workout, and cross-training every day leading up to each month's race. There are spaces to write what food was eaten that day and how many hours were slept the previous night, and there are check boxes to check off "daily littles" that improve training (such as strides, core, stretching, etc.). A notes section is included at the bottom of each page to record any extra notes or thoughts. On race days, there is a section to write down goals before the race, and a section to record race results.

At the end of each month, a course map is outlined to show the shape of the race course. Each month's outlined course map is layered on top of the previous months' maps, forming a continually growing abstracted figure. A running total of miles raced is below the layers course maps.
